Monday at ZFF

After Sunday’s opening in SC Cinema with the screening of Safe Place by Juraj Lerotić, the feature competition program continues in Tuškanac Cinema. The Quiet Girl, debut by Irish author Colm Bairéad, which received the Special Mention in the Generation Kplus program at Berlinale, screens at 10.30 AM and 6.30 PM. The classical drama about a neglected girl, set amidst the lush greenery of the Irish countryside, will be presented by the director personally. The winner of this year’s Berlinale, the spirited and shocking Catalan drama Alcarràs by Carla Simón screens at 1 PM and 9 PM.

The short film competition starts in Kinoteka Cinema at 10 PM. The national program Checkers brings films from authors who have already participated in it: Jakov Nola (Counter-Offensive – ZFF 2017 – special mention; Homely – ZFF 2019) presents his short film Christmas Eve, while Bojan Radanović (Before Dark – ZFF 2016 and Letters – ZFF 2019) presents Fender. International short films will be screened at the same time: the Swedish Berry Pickers by Agnes Skonare Karlsson and The Affront by Jonas Ulrich.

Screenings from three other programs also start at the same place: The Great 5, Together Again and KinoKino. Every day during the festival, noon at Kinoteka is reserved for the youngest audience, and the first of the KinoKino titles is My Dad is a Sausage (ages 10+), the unforgettable adventure starring Johan Heldenbergh (Alabama Monroe). The Great 5 opens with the British film Aftersun by Charlotte Wells, a beautiful drama which develops with the gradual poignancy of a Polaroid (IndieWire) produced by Oscar winner Barry Jenkins and starring BAFTA winner Paul Mescal (Normal People). Twenty years after his first film Fuse opened the 1st ZFF, the Together Again program features Pjer Žalica’s newest film, the dark humour drama May Labour Day, which was seen by 10 000 people on its opening weekend in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Great 5 is being shown at the Museum of Modern Art, where at 6 PM we have Lullaby, an intimate drama about mothers and motherhood by Alauda Ruiz de Azua and Laia Costa (Only You – ZFF 2019) in the lead role. Pedro Almodóvar called Lullaby the best Spanish debut film in the last few years. The Network of Festivals in the Adriatic Region’s program in the MSU will feature Alma Viva by Cristèle Alves Meira, the Portuguese Academy Award candidate, a charming film about growing up, witchcraft, and grief. Aside from MSU, The Network of Festivals in the Adriatic Region’s program will be available online at ondemand.kinomeetingpoint.ba during ZFF.

In KIC Dokukino we will remember the winning documentaries of ZFF from a time when documentaries were in the running for the Golden Pram. The first among them is Slaughter Nick for President by Rob Stewart, a ZFF award-winning film from 2012, which screens on Monday at 8 PM. Monday at KIC Dokukino also brings the first event of the Industry program aimed at professionals: a panel discussion with the focus on cross-border cooperation Creative Europe MEDIA Desk Day: Know Your Neighbour by the Creative Europe MEDIA desks in Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece and Serbia in collaboration with ZFF.
