Maria, Dan and Ilinca drive along muddy mountain roads in their SUVs, distributing humanitarian aid to remote villages. Along the way, they meet an old man whom they agree to take to a nearby sawmill. Realising that the car is stuck in a forest ditch, the sawmill is abandoned, and the old man is senile, the team of do-gooders will wonder how much good they are actually willing to do. In the darkness of the ominous forest, nerves, reason and ideals are lost. This tense, bittersweet satire about the hypocrisies and pitfalls of charity premiered at the Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes.
