In 2009, the German ship Hansa Stavanger was hijacked by Somali pirates and held captive for four months. After the liberation, magazine covers showed the ship’s captain happy to escape the barbarians. However, the film reveals a deeper story behind sensationalist headlines. Its protagonists are captain Krysztof Kotiuk and young pirate leader Ahado. After weeks in captivity without any help from Germany, the captain approaches his adversary in a desperate attempt to save his crew. When everyone fails him, Ahado becomes his only confidant. Best Documentary at ZFF 2013.
