An elderly couple and their faithful ox live a quiet life in a remote South Korean valley. The old farmer Choi is inseparable from the animal that has helped him cultivate the land every day for the last 40 years, feeding his family and affording his children an education. Their bond is so deep that Choi believes he recognizes his own soul in the ox’s gaze. But now they are both old, the ox has cancer and their days together are slowly coming to an end. This moving pastoral documentary premiered at Sundance; Best Documentary at ZFF 2009.

South Korean TV producer. His directorial debut, Old Partner (2008), premiered at Sundance. It also garnered unexpected success at home, attracting almost three million viewers to cinemas across Korea. This was an unprecedented box-office turnout for an independent and documentary film. He also produced the fiction feature Re-encounter (2010).
